Maine Youth Power worked hard this fall to elect candidates who are committed to fighting for the future that we need to thrive. We reached over 16,000 young voters across the state and all five of our endorsed candidates won their races!
Huge congratulations to Kilton Webb and Flavia Debrito on winning their first elections (and for Webb by only 74 votes!) and to Mana Abdi, Ambureen Rana, and Mike Tipping for being re-elected! We are excited to work with them this winter in the legislative session.
We had some really solid wins locally this year, but nationally we are getting ready to build our movement and fight for the future we need over the next 4 years and beyond. A second Trump presidency is scary and confirms the fears and trends we’ve seen from the right, as well as the rise of fascism in the US. We at Maine Youth Power know that the fight for justice, human dignity, and a liveable future continues, in strength and in solidarity with all harmed. We will continue to build a youth movement and contend for power in Maine.

Why endorse candidates?
Our mission is to build power in Maine so that young people take decision making roles and build a future where we all thrive. This year, we are planning to turn out 10,000 young people to vote in Maine across districts. We see elections as an important tactic towards gaining influence in our state. By endorsing candidates running for state office, we are building allies in the statehouse and growing our representation in Augusta by getting movement candidates in positions of power. Though we are focusing on certain districts and Maine State candidates, all of our futures thrive when we elect candidates that will center our issues, identities and priorities in the government. While we are mobilizing as an organization to elect movement champions this year, our strategy is greater than 2024, as we look into the future and towards the type of policy we can enact in 2025, 2026 and the type of power we will hold as our base grows!
